Currently, Integrity is seeking a Research & Development Director

Paying $75k to $105k depending on experience. This is a Direct-Hire position.

This role reports to the President of the company. This position plays a critical role in the development of new products and supporting existing products, processes, and markets for the client. The R&D Director will play a cross functional leadership role incumbent plays a significant role of the day to day activities of product development and providing a technical guidance. Participates on cross functional teams to ensure effective resolution of technical issues and to support product innovation. Provides periodical assistant to the QA team. Prepares and sends samples to existing and/or prospective customers. 

  • Identify strategies, pioneer new ideas, establish priorities and annual goals, and monitor execution of Product Development activities that support new product initiatives, quality improvements and other company initiatives.
  • Understand the client values and consumer needs. Use insights to build unique product attributes into new products.
  • Define and communicate product design criteria to external resources (vendors, co-manufacturers, etc.). Collaborate with these to drive projects forward in a timely and effective manner.
  • Document observed results, analyze data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations during product development activities.
  • Lead all technical development activities to scale up for commercialization, product launch, and post-launch monitoring including development of formula, technical label copy, products specifications, and quality criteria.
  • Develop, implement and refine department policies and processes for regulatory, nutritional labeling, documentation and filing, product quality (sensory attributes) and other determined areas.
  • This position will require 30% travel to support commercialization efforts.
  • Ability to perform bench top work to provide prototype of new and existing product ideas and to conduct plant trials to confirm manufacturing process and formula.
  • Supports cross functional team and manage product cutting, sensory evaluation, reformulation of current products. Agent for continuous improvement, drives results and assist in problem solving/root cause investigation of production problems.
  • Trains new and current team members.
  • Conducts daily analytical testing of products to develop QC spec parameters and analysis micro-safety results of outside laboratory.
  • Responsible for the evaluation of new ingredients and new suppliers.
  • Assist QA/QC , Production and marketing for troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Develop strategic and creative new products as they relate to the frozen dough industry.
  • Complete accurate food costing of ingredients for the products developed.
  • Work along-side multiple departments with all aspects of product roll-out including marketing and sales.
  • Develop and refine specifications for new and/or existing products.
  • Work closely with Operations, Purchasing and Brand Marketing in communication of technical information, related to new product test programs.
  • Nutritional analysis and calculations using ESHA Genesis nutrition software.
  • Research and incorporate new flavors, ingredients, and processes into new and existing product lines.

  • SUPPLIER RELATIONS: Maintains excellent relationships with ingredient suppliers who provide new and innovative ingredients.
  • PROBLEM SOLVING: Regularly exhibits the ability to use sound judgment during the decision-making process. Presents the President with solution options and recommendations.
  • LEADERSHIP/IMAGE: Continuously seeks to enhance the image through personal conduct, professional appearance and public relations efforts.  Maintain consistent/sound decision-making and enforcement of company standards and policy.  Considers company position and image in all verbal and written communications.  Takes a leadership role within industry organizations that directly impact the sales growth of their food service market.  Reads trade publications and joins committees, which keep self-abreast of industry news, issues and trends.
  • EXPENSE CONTROL: Maintains expenses within accepted budgetary guidelines and adheres to company expense policies.

  • EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or other related field from an accredited college/university or Equivalent experience. Minimum of 5 to 10 years’ experience in bakery product development and food manufacturing.
    • Basic knowledge of the usage and functionality of bakery ingredients (different types of flours, different types of fats, different types of sugars, different types of flavors).
    • Good experience in using emulsifiers and stabilizers to extend the shelf-life and improve texture and eating quality of finished product.
    • Experience in improving dough quality by modifying mixing procedures.
    • Familiar with the formulation of Sugar Free, Gluten Free, Organic, and Non-GMO, and clean label Bakery products.
    • Proficiency in MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, and Powerpoint.
    • Basic knowledge of Supermarket and Food Service Industries.
    • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities with urgency via prioritization and program management skills.
    • Ability to create and lead change, setting and increasing standards of functional executional excellence.
    • Excellent functional/technical skills, in particular knowledge of Food Technology, Culinary Science, and Manufacturing understanding.
    • Keen understanding of FDA and USDA regulations, plus experience with Organic and Kosher foods.
    • Keeping current with trends, consumer insights, and competitors in the frozen dough industries.
    • Requires independent, analytical and creative work efforts regarding proper procedures, planning and follow-up.
    • Requires adaptability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while remaining an awareness of completion dates and understanding of management principles, especially of time management.
    • Basic to moderate knowledge of food regulations with specific emphasis on nutritional labeling, natural food ingredients, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
    • All other duties as necessary for the success of the company.
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS:   Ability to read and respond to common inquiries; ability to communicate in writing and speech; all with or without an accommodation.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:   Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, ounces to grams, scaling formulas up or down in poundage.
  • MANAGEMENT: Ability to Manage Projects as prioritized by the President, adaptability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining an awareness of completion dates and understanding of management principles, specifically in the area of time management.
